What are Emotions?

There are so many lenses we can start to see the world through. I am always amazed at the layers and complexities of life. The challenges we face through life and how they seem to appear without notice. The human journey is full of so many experiences. Your first day at school, understanding how to read, tasting something for the first time. These are experiences we face in our adolescence. Often these experiences play themselves out and we simply absorb them. Though as we grow older we start to experience things that move our inner worlds on a larger scale. Adulthood brings with it a wealth of movement within, the inner world opens up and there is so much that goes on within us.

The fascination of the inner world is one we as human beings are starting to understand. Esoteric knowledge on these subjects was vast, yet it seems humanity veered away from its spiritual beginnings and grounded itself well into physical reality. It’s astounding that we so much of what we perceive as experience is all tied into how it makes us feel, yet many of us don’t really look to understand the inner world. We take our inner world as a happen sake. Something that just is, not knowing how much depth there is within and how much there is to understand. If you really want to change your life, you need to change your energy. The first step is to understand. Have you ever stopped and tried to understand emotion?

Emotions are an interesting thing, they create the sense of meaning behind what we are experiencing. Imagine an experience without emotion. What is emotion? I mean it’s something inside of us which we can’t really describe. Why do we feel ‘happy’ or ‘sad’? What does that even mean? We do something we enjoy, that enjoyment is ultimately an emotion. Our inner states dictate so much of what we do and why we do it. This invisible force is very real. It cannot be seen, it cannot be touched, it cannot be heard but its very real. In a world where we want to ‘see it to believe it’, we have something which is so real but cannot be grasped through the physical. Emotion is something beyond the physical. It is a force, a power, a resonance. It is in itself pure energy. It is literally energy in motion. There is much to the universe our physical senses cannot grasp, but other parts of us can.

Let’s take a bit of a deeper look at the complexity of emotion. How does an emotion arise within the body? How does it process within? Generally speaking, it is a physiological reaction to an event in the external world, which then becomes a part of your internal reality. The energy that is taken from the outside world is generally translated and decoded by the human conscious perception. The decoding happens in the way of mental processes known as thought and physiological responses known as feelings. The two responses together create what we know to be emotion. It’s a direct clue that we are linked to the outside world around us. Many of us walk around in the illusion of separation, when the simple truth of emotion shows us that we are literally connected to all there is around us. We all have different emotional reactions to different stimulus. Sometimes we do not have any reaction at all. This makes understanding emotions even more difficult.

Our emotions need to be managed. Our energy fields require work, they require understanding and patience. Human beings are unique on the Earth in the way we process our emotional states. Our mental processes and physiological states allow us to store energy through what we call memory. Memory is an interesting topic, its basically a Rolodex which gives us a reference point in life. Each memory is linked to an emotion. Try to remember something, you will always find a feeling attached to the memory. The mental process known as thought has a linked feeling to it. This is the emotion or energy charge this experience has left within you. The same experience can leave a different emotional charge inside someone, depending on who they are. We take the national anthem of your country versus one of another country as an example. So why the different reactions?

Energy has frequency states. Sound for example has frequencies, we have the low rumble of bass which has its own resonance, then we have the high frequencies of chimes, which tingle. Each vibration has its own characteristic of sorts, its own feeling. That’s why the bass guitar resonates differently to a trumpet. Similar to this, emotions also have their own resonance fields. They emit different energies. Your body is also made up of energy, its own energy states which are dictated through your own life experience and the subconscious life experiences of your past and family lines.

We are third-density physical beings in this universe. The universe itself contains its own rules and laws. I refer to these as ‘universal laws’ which are almost a guide to energy and frequency. There are not many absolutes in this life, but one thing we can be sure of is that certain vibrations which are healing to the universe and others that are destructive. We manage these vibrations through us in emotional states and have given them great meaning through understanding.

Emotions are actually sound waves our ears cannot hear. Don’t be fooled to think these vibrational fields aren’t real just because the human senses of sound and sight cannot grasp them. Sound has been known to create a lot in this universe. The reason we have ‘negative’ or ‘positive’ emotion is due to the level of coherence they produce. If we were to look at love as a pattern it would be extremely coherent, creating beautiful shapes and waves of amazing symmetry. Emotions such as hate, anger create incoherence and that is why they do not feel right. This was most famously proven in the experiments by Masaru Emoto, showing conclusively why ‘good’ and ‘bad’ vibrations exist. He sent the emotions of love, gratitude and positive music to water and it changed into beautifully coherent shapes. Subsequently he also showed the effects of negative emotions on water. Watch it here.

We are known to be 70% water. The vibrations we create literally change our molecular structures. Emoto’s experiment are a great reminder to where our intentions and feelings should lie if we want to create a better world. There are many depths to the human experience and one could ponder them for all existence. The profound question of life is one I do not have an answer too. But how to navigate this experience is one we are all interested in and can solve. Let’s take a look at how our body processes emotions via our bodies. We do this mostly through what is known as our central nervous system.

The central nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord and its the most complex machine on Earth. It can pick up these fields and decode them into the feelings and thoughts we experience. Everything is energy, our body and mind are the decoders of the energy field. Positive energy fields heal us, make us laugh, sing and sometimes shed a tear of joy. Negative energy fields make us depressed, angry, shameful, fearful & grieve. This is because our bodies literally vibrate either coherently or incoherently depending on the experience. There are obvious experiences in the world that create a negative energy within us and many that are positive too. But a huge part of life is knowing that we can create our own emotions and change many of the simple situations of life into positive experience. The universe carries a polarity of energy for reasons that would be too broad to explain in one article, but all emotions have a purpose. How could we truly appreciate good without bad. Life and death are a dance of life, one I could not possibly sum up in a few words.

The body has a natural resonance, a natural energy field. Emotions that move through us can shift this energy field higher and lower. It’s important to start understanding that these emotions are not us, they are simply parts of an experience in our external reality. Emotions can often get stuck in the body, and we then start to make identities out of them. We become the new job, the fight with the friend, the hate we suffered as a child. These become lodged in our energy field. A part of life is learning to move and manage these emotions. We start seeing ourselves as better or worse than others because of the emotions we process through the experience. Not knowing it was never us in the first place. People process things differently and their perceptions cause the emotions within them. This is described in greater detail in my article ‘Perceptions of Reality’.

A lifetime of experience is within us, how do we start to balance that with our energy fields and live in harmony? We must learn how to manage our emotions and release them from our energy field, while practicing how to balance our energy fields. Knowing how to release emotions from your energy field is important.

Let us understand emotion, so that we may build our intelligence. This intelligence will allow us to know life. We are born into this world and learning emotions is usually not something people focus on. Such a large part of our life remains a mystery for many. Our relationships could become alot more harmonious, our experiences more fulfilling and our hard times much easier, should we take the time to learn emotions. So how do we manage emotions?

How can we manage emotion if we do not understand it. My next article will go into the basic principles of how we can manage emotions and processes them. How we can practice detachment & flow with life. It’s all good an well to have happy memories stored within us, however life comes with it a wealth of challenges. We must learn to how to move through them, rather than hold onto them.
