The Silence speaks

The eyes open, we welcome ourselves back into the world. Ready for another day in the journey of the hustle and bustle that creates our life. What will be do, where will we go? The routine is there; setting in, allowing us to have some structure to our day to day. We go through our mobile phone, speak to others, allow ourselves to be immersed into the reality around us.

There is something that hides in all of the world, is easy to spot but not everyone really finds it. Its easy to hear but alot of us rarely listen. Its between the song of the bird or the honk of the horn. Between the busy traffic noise and the voices you hear. You miss it when its right there between all your thoughts, the ones that seem so endless. Everything comes out of it – yet we never think about it. I am speaking about the one thing that speaks without words, without music, without sound – It’s called Silence.

The day can be tiring, it can bring about alot of reactions, issues and problems. We want answers to these things but where do we find them? If you feel stressed, worried or overwhelmed. Let the silence speak. You are always so focussed on the physical reality and how busy it can seem. But stop, take a breathe and observe nothing. Stop and observe the silence that allows all to be.

To do this, it is essential to first understand that silence exists. Take a deep breathe, relax and slowly let it out. Breathing slowly is the first part of finding silence. Then look around and try and find the silence. When you focus on this, your mind feels less cluttered. You feel lighter and much more at ease. This is because when you focus on the silence around you, it automatically allows you to notice the silence within.

Through mobile phones, online entertainment services, the Internet, electronic mail, television, radio, newspapers, books, social media etc. people receive every day about 105,000 words or 23 words per second in half a day (12 hours) (during awake hours).

Although people can not really read these 105,000 words each day, this is the real number estimated to be reaching the human eyes and ears every day. After adding pictures, videos, games, etc., we reach the volume of 34 Gigabytes of information per day on average.

The deluge of information in modern times by the media and other information sources has led to daily “bombing” of the average human brain with such a large volume of information. Most of the information we allow into our minds is junk which creates clutter.

The advantage of focussing on silence and space is you allow your mind to create a filter between unnecessary information and the mind. Less clutter allows your mind to open itself up and store less information. When this is done, we can sit in silence and allow the computer within us to process existing information. This allows you to start focussing on your body instead of the world around you.

Anxiety, depression & other mental health conditions can all stem from an overload of negative emotions. If you are feeling unrest, anxious or anything else in the body. Sit and allow yourself to be the observer of these thoughts, feelings or symptoms rather than the receiver. By becoming the observer we better understand ourselves and therefore allow for a clearer, happier & healthier version of ourselves to unfold. It will be really difficult at first, you may even find a lot of clutter comes up. But sit, rest and observe – its a skill that must be developed over time.

I will leave it here for this article. The process I am speaking about I will go into more detail later. Until then, ensure you take 5-10 minutes a day to sit in silence and observe. You won’t regret it. Infact you will probably end up wanting more.
